毎日 Minecraft のゲームに飲み込まれそうになっている長男（11歳）ですが、時間制限でPCが切れてゲームができなくなると、その後の時間はたいてい本を読み漁っています。
どんな本でも良いわけではなく、
「Harry potter シリーズ」や「Wings of Fire シリーズ」のような、異世界のファンタジーアクションものか、

「Diary of a Wimpy Kid シリーズ」のような、同年代の目線で書かれている日常の話などに限ります。

親としては、もっと広いジャンルの本を読んで見聞を広めてほしいのですが、
長男「興味のない本を読むのは苦痛」
らしいです……。
彼は、面白い本に出会うと、必ず私に「この本、絶対読んで！」と勧めてきます。
私もなんとか読みたいのですが、英語の本を彼と同じスピードで読むのが無理なのと、そこまで時間がとれないので、
なかなか彼の要求に答えられなくなっていました。
そんな彼が最近特に勧めてくるのが、「Percy Jackson シリーズ」です。

この本は、退屈な日常を送っていた主人公が、実は海の神ポセイドンの息子だった事が判明し、神々の戦いに巻き込まれていく……という感じのストーリー。
描写も面白く、触りを読んだだけで、「確かに息子の好きそうな本だな。」と思いました。
ただ、例によって全部読む時間がなく、
彼から「もう読んだ？」と急かされる日々……
私は「ごめん、まだ読んでない」と謝りながら、
「この本のどーゆーところが面白いの？」と聞いてみました。
彼から出てきた答えは、
「だって、ギリシャの神様達とかでてくるし、バトルがあるし、それに『ロマンス』があるんだよね。」
私「え、ロマンス？」
私はちょっと自分の耳を疑いました。
とゆーのも、息子は今まで全く女っ気がなく、
長男（９歳）は、時々、男友達から遊びの誘いを受けます。 アフタースクールに迎えに行くと、 「今日、長男君にうちにきてほしいんだけどいいかな？」 「今週末プレイデートしたいんだけど、僕の親と連絡とってくれる？」 等々、同い …
テレビや映画でロマンスっぽいシーンになると「わー見たくない」と嫌悪感を示してチャンネルを変えていたからです。
私「長男くんはロマンスが嫌いなんじゃなかったの？」
と聞いてみると、
長男「うん、まあ、映画とかで本物を見るのは嫌だけど、本の中なら面白いんだ。」
とのこと。
「今まで、性格がかなり幼いと思っていたけど、やっぱりちょっとずつ成長して、変わっていくんだな。」
と、息子の変化を嬉しく思う反面、いつか独立する日を想像してちょっとだけ切なくなりました。
